Mission statement

The Swiss Institute of Service Science (SISS) serves the Swiss service sector as well as the service-related part of the Swiss manufacturing industry by:

  • generating innovation and knowledge by integrating business, engineering, and human factors into a joint scientific research agenda for service
  • supporting the implementation and dissemination of knowledge in Switzerland by close cooperation with companies
  • bringing together researchers and practitioners for creating innovation and smart solutions
  • using its international network for stimulating innovation in Switzerland

The Swiss Institute of Service Science is a joint venture of the School of Engineering at Zurich University of Applied Sciences (SoE-ZhaW), the Geneva School of Business Administration (HEG) of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland, and the School of Applied Psychology of the University of Applied Sciences North-West Switzerland (APS FHNW) and Institute of Technology Management and Transfer Center for Technology Management (TECTEM) of the University of St. Gallen (HSG).

It brings together professors and researchers of six research institutes with many years of experience in service science related research:

  • Centre for Applied Research in Management (CRAG) at HEG
  • Institute of Data Analysis and Process Design (idp) at ZHaW
  • Three institutes of the School of Applied Psychology at FHNW
  • Institute of Applied Information Technology (InIT) at ZHaW
  • Institute of Technology Management and Transfer Center for Technology Management (TECTEM) at HSG

This unique combination of expertise in the fields of business, engineering and human factors under one roof creates the backbone for the interdisciplinary and integrated research activities which we are dedicated to.

Application areas include banks and insurance companies, telecom companies, government agencies, health care and senior citizen care industries, or travel agencies.
